H&N Layer Academy in Manila, Philippines 2024

H&N Layer Academy in Manila, Philippines 2024

Fluent in Chickish

Manila, October 2024 – Profit comes from speaking “Chickish”. Learning it better was the main objective of our Layer Academy in Manila, Philippines. A total of 72 participants and customers from Thailand, Russia, Pakistan, Nepal, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, and, of course, the Philippines attended. The event format focused on interactive edutainment to maximize the experience and ensure attendees could internalize know how with much more fun!

Learning must be fun to be effective – at least that’s H&N Internationals take on it. Our academies are aided by digital learning formats to make them interactive and highly collaborative so customers can learn to meet and widely exceed standard results. That’s why nearly every lecture embedded a digital quiz-format, that gathered hard data and direct feedback to work on with!

On the first day H&N Chief Geneticist Dr. David Cavero gave an update on the future of the layers. Even stronger birds, yet longer production cycles give more power to producers, but also require the mindset to develop and market the birds accordingly.

PerspEGGtives

Dr. Fernando Carrasquer coined the phrase of “speaking Chickish” when showing how lighting programs are the way to inform you birds about your desired egg targets. And he issued a warning to limit oneself to models basing on theoretical local feed availability, as practically they won’t work when you are not in the very same location or feed availability changes!

The following presentations across all three days then showed in detail “Do and Don’ts” in management key in rearing and production. The nutrition is another pilar to achieving the performance we expect, Xabier Arbe, Managing Director of H&N shared the latest findings including the results of our new R&D facility for feeding trials in Türkiye.

Why KAI – because it mirrors real processes and fulfills your very real needs!

Dr. Pratap Rananavare gave latest updates in KAI: The 44 pre-installed daily tasks can be expanded with your very own, personal tasks. You can add any task that matters to you locally and it will show up in the automatic task reminder.

Also new: H&Ns personal set-up assistance. Get your excel sheets and notes digitized and start your KAI with all your data already set-up by our H&N colleague, project developer Jon Urkiola.

Digitally aided direct feedback showed very clearly how in reality production data is managed on farms all over the world – and where H&Ns farming assistance KAI makes a true difference for better, easier and safer management. KAI has been developed along the lines of daily farm tasks, and another digital survey as part of the lecture proved that H&Ns farming assistance is a true assistant in every one of them! Plus, it enables flawless, fast assessment and exchange of data between currently eight languages, so users speaking different languages can view data directly without the need of a third-party interpreter – fast reaction is an advantage when users want to show their data to a veterinary or project manager not speaking their local language.

More highlights: Our external speakers:

Judith O’Keeffe from Sure-feed Pty Ltd, Australia spoke about egg size in tropical conditions – or simply about “success” in general, as she said, because her insights also apply to other conditions. “Spend money where you want to make money!” is her best advice. And spend at the right end to multiply your return on investments! Beware of leaky barriers in living organisms, because what kills in birds as likewise in humans is the damage of barriers between inside and outside. That’s why vitamins are key! Stress of any kind directly affects the yolk formation and ovulation!

The third day started with a presentation from Dr. Denis Yau, Poultry Veterinarian at the City University of Hong Kong. Dr. Yau spoke on another hot topic, especially in regions with tropical climates. He explained the impact and counter measures against low pathogenic Avian Influenza and threw more, in fact much more, light onto the importance of vaccination and the various ways of administration.

Exploring Manila

Touring various local restaurants, we found Philippine Food a rich flavorful mixture of dishes with various influences like Spanish, Mexican, Chinese, Indian or Japanese. The second day saw us walking through the famous Intra Muros District that forms the oldest part of Manila. By that time an upcoming Tayfun announced itself with heavy gusts and rainfalls. Untouched by the winds of modernization the star attractions San Agustin Church and Museum, Fort Santiago, Manila Cathedral and the Rizal Shrine amazed us. The last day concluded with the Certificate Ceremony and a lavish dinner in the Hyatt Hotel.
