Nutritionist, Global Nutrition Team, H&N International
H&N International welcomes our newest team member, nutritionist Elise den Hartog
from the Netherlands. Elise joined our team in May and very quickly became another
great asset.
Elise comes from a family with long-standing farming background. Being born into a
farm environment means acquiring all sorts of practical and theoretical firsthand and
hands on experiences from day one. “As long as I can remember the key lever was
always to take best care of the animals on our farm, because their performance will
reflect this. An animal on poor conditions will never show its full potential”, Elise
recalls. Achieving and maintaining this approach is also what she helps H&N
customers to do.
Before joining H&N International Elise studied Animal Sciences at the renowned
University of Wageningen, Netherlands with a focus on Poultry in both Nutrition &
Metabolism, and Adaptation Physiology. She finished her studies with a Master of
Science (Msc).
Her next career milestone was a feed mill in Southern Netherlands where she worked
as Poultry Nutritionist for almost 3.5 years. During this time she was given the
opportunity to do her first trial in pullet rearing which results were also used to finish
her MSc in Wageningen. Combined with on-site nutrition for several poultry farms,
this provided her with a solid foundation to build upon. After two more years in
various roles and responsibilities around the Poultry Sector Elise had gathered a
broad toolkit of experiences in all things surrounding poultry management. She then
went back to the special area of poultry nutrition and covered the entire lifecycle from
pullet to production.
Elise recalls her earliest inspiration was to become a veterinary, probably with a
multispecies skill set – but as specialized nutritionist she profoundly focusses on
layers as one species and, with her in-depth knowledge and experience, helps
breeders and producers to implement and drive best practices for best results in eggs
and welfare.
Other species still make a great part of her leisure live. When Elise is not travelling
around the world on a Nutrition mission, she enjoys riding and training her horse,
does various other sports activities and, to wind down, loves to sketch and draw.
